Travel Insurance during the Covid Epidemic

Concerns about border closures have prompted more Australians to take out Covid travel insurance.
Most people don’t realise that border closures and restrictions are not covered by travel insurance, which may be one of the reasons they are purchasing policies.
It’s believed that around 15 per cent of Australians take out travel insurance when they go on holiday. However, the uncertainty of the past couple of years has caused demand to spike.
Holidaymakers are being urged to look at other factors when choosing a policy to avoid paying more for insurance. According to insurance experts, the cost of premiums has gone up across the board, but it’s more important than ever that people consider factors such as extras when choosing a policy.
You should also think about the type of holiday you are planning on having and how it will affect your travel insurance policy.”
Although cruise lines are starting to book again, it is still important that you are covered for multi-night cruises. Many insurance companies are not currently covering these types of trips due to the current environment.
No insurer currently offers protection for international or domestic border closures. Travellers who visit a country that has been warned about doing so would face no Covid-related claims.
Currently, most health insurance policies won’t cover claims for people who are not fully vaccinated. However, some carriers may still refuse coverage for those who are not fully vaccinated.
You can also get Covid-19 if you get hit with a Do Not Travel warning while you’re in a country where it doesn’t apply.
Travel insurance is an essential part of any trip, the Industry Council said.

Alcohol Consumption Soars

Australian’s really enjoyed their alcohol this year with a statistics compiled by the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed that spending on alcohol increased by $2 billion this year compare to last year. In the September quarter, spending on Alcohol rose by 17 per cent to $6.18 billion compared to last year. This is after even larger spending in the June quarter of $6.21 billion.
Most of this increase is attributed to the Coronavirus pandemic and people looking for ways to pass the time with lock downs and working from home.
Broken down by household, statistics show that Aussie households spent an average $1891 on alcohol this year compared to $1621 last year.
Australian National University (ANU) conducted it’s own survey and found that 20 percent of Australians had increased their alcohol consumption during the pandemic with a large proportion increasing their drinking by three to four standard drinks. Many people attributed the increase to having to deal with being at home more and experiencing an increase in stress related to boredom, kids and finances.
The excess consumption of Alcohol by Australians brings forth an increase in social issues. An increase in Alcohol consumption often leads to an increase in domestic violence and puts extra strain on social services.
